Star Indian off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is set to rejoin county club Worcestershire after the completion of the test series against England for the final two rounds of the Championship cricket season.
With India’s tour of England ending on September 11, Ashwin will link up with his teammates for the club’s final two games of the 2018 Division 1 season- away against Essex at Chelmsford (September 18) and at home against Yorkshire (September 24)
The 31-year old will serve as an overseas replacement for South African all rounder Wayne Parnell.
As mentioned above, Ashwin played for Worcestershire last season, and his performances for them were good enough to make club bosses request the BCCI for the lanky offie to have another stint at BlackFinch New Road.
In his last term at the club, he bagged 20 wickets (with two 5 wicket hauls) and has made some more than useful contributions with the bat while coming down the order (averaging 42).
Ashwin is a part of India’s 18 man squad for the forthcoming five-Test series against England, which starts at Edgbaston on August 1.
As seen on thecricketblog.info, India suffered their first ever ODI series defeat under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, with England edging them 2-1 earlier this month.
India are also likely to be without key pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah for the first two tests. The Mumbai Indians star missed the ODI and T20 legs of the tour, but has been named in the test side after his impressive performances away in South Africa earlier this year.
CSK star Ashwin has lost his spot in the shorter versions of the game to the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal and will be keen for a good performance overseas to bring him back into reckoning ahead of the 2019 World Cup, which will also be held in England.
